Job Description

The Distell Public Policy Internship is available for unemployed graduates in South Africa who want to gain work exposure.

Distell offers an exciting opportunity to a suitable candidate in our Corporate & Regulatory Affairs Department. This position will be part of the Public Policy & Regulatory Affairs team, based at Distell Libertas Parva, Stellenbosch. The successful candidate will report to the Group Manager: Public Policy & Regulatory Affairs.

Purpose of the Distell Public Policy Internship Position:
The intention is to give practical work experience to students who are in their final year of study and require in-service work exposure in order to obtain their qualification and/or those recently graduated but unemployed and require exposure in a work environment. Successful interns will be expected to enter into a 12 month contract commencing 1 February 2019 and terminating 31 January 2020.

Key Performance Areas for the Distell Public Policy Internship would include, but are not limited to:
Responsible for on-going tracking of policy environment globally
Assist in developing materials, policy papers, issue briefs, PowerPoint presentations and talking points on issues for internal and external audiences including key business owners and policy makers.
Assist in managing the development and execution of the company’s Public Policy Agenda
Monitor, track and evaluate issues linked to the Public Policy Agenda and prepare issue summaries, correspondence and related materials
Working with all functions to advance the company’s concerns/support
Co-develops policy positions and lobbying strategies on proposed legislation and regulations.
Conduct specific research projects as necessary and provide written reports communicating the results of the research.

The successful candidate must have the following qualification, skills and experience:
Master’s in (Political Science, Public Policy, Economics, Law and other related fields)
A track record of outstanding academic performance
Eagerness to contribute in a team-oriented environment
Ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment
Excellent leadership, communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
Driver’s license and own transport is essential
